2024 RAM Board Candidates

2024 RAM Elections will take place at the conference.

Michelle Bell
Candidate for RAM Treasurer

Picture
Hello, my name is Michelle Bell. I joined the MDRS family in January 2001 as a Secretary Principal at the former Allied Enterprises of Monroe County facility, which has now closed. My title changed to Administrative Assistant, and I was a member of the pilot teams for AACE, Productivity Trac (CPM now), and Navision. I took a 15-month hiatus when I left MDRS in June 2008, but my heart was always with the agency, and I jumped at the opportunity to return when it presented itself in September 2009. Since returning to the agency, I obtained my associate’s degree and a bachelor’s degree in business administration. My job titles have progressed from Administrative Assistant, Office Manager, and Facility Manager, all within the AbilityWorks, Inc. program. I was also a training team member to help other AbilityWorks staff members learn their job duties and participated in various projects throughout the years. My current title of Accounting and Payroll Manager with the AbilityWorks, Inc. Finance Department allows me to continue helping our facilities statewide with payroll and all other financial aspects. I am also currently working toward completing the Certified Public Manager program through the State Personnel Board.
My husband, William, and I celebrated 25 years of marriage in July, and we have two children. Caitlyn is working toward a nursing degree, and Charles is an apprentice lineman at our local utility company. In my spare time, I enjoy reading, arts and crafts, and spending time with loved ones.

I have been an NRA member over 16 years and served as RAM board member for several years. In 2020, I served as RAM President. Through the years, I have seen RAM assist many individuals with disabilities such as aiding with fishing rodeos, disability hunts, Feeding the homeless, donating to treatment centers, children in foster care, donating to Angel tree, Toys for Tots; purchase of education toys for children with severe disabilities to building accessible playgrounds. RAM not only helps families across the state but continues to provide educational conference for all staff.

I have worked for MDRS about 23 years in different positions such as Evaluator II, Counselor III, District Manager, Coordinator for A&D, Autism and Special Projects; Director of client services. I left the agency for a couple of years. During my time away from MDRS, I served as a director for an A&D program within the state prison; I was responsible for overseeing staff, training as well as conducting therapy and education classes. I worked closely with NCCER (National Center for Construction Education and Research) to begin certification programs such as CORE/Basic construction class, Carpentry class, Welding and Forklift classes. Through this position, I was able to work very closely with law enforcement, narcotics and understanding drug trends and gangs within Mississippi.
